FEATURES & MY ROLE

Programming

For Outrun: Noir, I was responsible for the majority of the code used for the game. I developed the shooting mechanics, lain switching, point system, weapon pick ups, and all gun types. The only area of code which I did not work on is the options menus and scene management, as this was delegated to a designer with previous coding experience.

Randomised Spawning

I programmed a tool for my designers to use which would allows the to set and alter the elements of an enemy/obstacle spawner. This allowed them to customise the type, rate, and likelihood of what was spawned. The tool allowed for these options to be lane specific, allowing the designers to make unique combinations of spawning patterns between levels.

Enemies

I developed the logic behind the three enemy types: car, motorbike, sideliner. These enemies varied in their movement and shooting behaviours.

Road & Background Generator

Created a system that placed road tiles and randomly placed background scenery tiles.

Prefab & Scene Management

I was responsible for constructing prefabs out of their component parts, as well as organising the majority of assets in each scene.

Background

Outrun: Noir was developed during my Third Trimester in my first year at SAE Creative Media Institute. This was my first time developing a game as a group, as well as being the first game I created with a Game Design Document to create and follow. In addition to my work on the project, I was tasked with scheduling meetings, organising weekly sprints, and filling in for the team leader whenever they were unavailable.
